There is no specific inventor for chewing gum. It has been around since the Neolithic Period. It is been existing for over 5,000 thousand years, when birch barks with human tooth imprints have been found. These barks of tar were believed that it was made to reduce infections and had other medicinal advantages. Ancient Aztecs used chicle as the base for making something like gum. Most women saw this as an advantage to freshen their mouths.
Different forms of chewing gum were originated in different places such as Ancient Greece and American Indians. The ancient Greeks used to chew mastic gum, made out from the resin from the mastic tree. The American Indians chewed on resin from the sap of spruce trees and when the New England settlers saw this, they tried to commercially market spruce gums, and this was in the early 1880’s. A gum made from paraffin was originated around 1850 and became more popular than the spruce gum.
The first modern chewing gum was developed in the 1860’s when the chicle was imported from Mexico as a rubber substitute. Chicle gum and the gum we chew today were made out of similar latexes, had a smoother texture, and were able to hold a flavor for a long time.
Glee Gum from America, was the last factory to make gums out of chicle.

Walter E. Diemer invented the first bubble gum. He was doing something else and he claimed that it was an accident how he came up with the invention. The most available color in the factory was pink and that is why most bubble gums are pink today.
